Mariners sign veteran catcher Humberto Quintero to MLB contract

Quintero will be in uniform for tonight's game vs. Twins

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced today that the club has signed veteran catcher Humberto Quintera as a Major League free agent.

Quintero (Oom-BEAR-toe Keen-TAIR-oh) will be in uniform (#35) for tonight's (7:10 pm PT) game vs. the Minnesota Twins.

Quintero, 33, is an 11-year Major League veteran. He has played with San Diego (2003-2004), Houston (2005-2011), Kansas City (2012) and Philadelphia (2013), appearing in 446 MLB games in his career.

He began this season with the Phillies, appearing in 24 games and posting a .250 (16x64) batting average with 4 doubles, 2 home runs and 9 RBI. The Phillies were 12-12 in his 24 games. Quintero was designated for assignment by Philadelphia on July 24 and cleared waivers and elected free agency today.
