Loria responds to Gonzalez's critical comments
The Miami Herald on Sunday quoted Gonzalez, a former Marlins manager, saying: "There's not a manager dead or alive that Jeffrey thinks is good enough. Not Connie Mack, not anyone."
Gonzalez managed the Marlins for three-plus seasons, beginning in 2007 until he was dismissed on June 23, 2010.
After the Marlins lost, 3-2, to the Mets on Sunday at Citi Field, Loria expressed his dissatisfaction with Gonzalez's remarks.
"Classless," Loria said to reporters waiting outside the Marlins' clubhouse. "And you can quote me on that. Especially because he was with us for five years and he was a colossal failure. Not nice. Not nice."
Gonzalez was 276-279 in his 555 games as manager of Loria's club.
The status of Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen has yet to be determined.
Gonzalez was asked by the Herald, what lesson should be learned?
"Stick with someone," the Braves manager said. "Give guys opportunities. But he likes to make changes. As long as he owns the team, he makes the decisions. In his mind, they're the right ones."
The Marlins are off on Monday before opening a three-game set with the Braves at Turner Field on Tuesday.
