Prospect Marisnick picking it up after slow start
Marlins outfielder hits first homer of season for Triple-A New Orleans
Outfielder Jake Marisnick, the Marlins' No. 3 prospect and No. 62 overall on MLB.com's Top 100 Prospect list, hit his first home run of the season on Friday as Triple-A New Orleans defeated Omaha, 10-5. Marisnick finished the game 1-for-4.
Marisnick was part of the return the Marlins got from their massive trade with the Blue Jays in November 2012. Despite being hampered by injuries, the outfielder reached the Major Leagues in his first season in the organization, playing in 40 games for the Marlins.
But he returned to the Minor Leagues this year and quickly fell into a slump. He hit .141 with a .411 OPS in the first 17 games of the season.
Marisnick has recently begun to show signs of breaking out. During a modest four-game hitting streak, he is 6-for-16 with two doubles and a home run. His recent hot stretch has raised his batting average to .188 and his OPS to .547.
