Holliday named NL Player of the Week

After leading the Majors in RBIs last week and helping to drive the Cardinals into first place in the National League Central, outfielder Matt Holliday has been named the NL Player of the Week.

It's Holliday's seventh career weekly award and second with the Cards. He last won on June 20, 2010.

Holliday recorded 13 RBIs over the last week of August and also led the NL with four home runs, 24 total bases and a .889 slugging percentage. He hit .370 over seven games.

In each of St. Louis' three wins last week, Holliday drove in the game-winning run. His two-RBI single in the top of the seventh was the eventual game-winner Monday, and his three-run fifth-inning homer on Saturday night was the difference-maker against the Cubs. Holliday homered again in the eighth inning of that game for his 19th career multihomer game, and he finished the night with a season-high five RBIs.

Holliday finished the week with a 3-for-4 game on Sunday against the Cubs, hitting his 16th homer of the season and driving in four. His 81 RBIs this year is a team high and his 21 game-winning RBIs leads the league.
