Mets sending three players to Arizona Fall League

NEW YORK -- The Mets will send three prospects to the Arizona Fall League once the Minor League seasons end: infielder Jeff McNeil, right-hander Beck Wheeler and right-hander Ricky Jannis.

McNeil, the Mets' 12th-round selection in the 2013 Draft, has split time between second, third and shortstop while hitting .317 for Class A Advanced St. Lucie. McNeil, 23, leads the Florida State League in runs scored and on-base percentage (.376), and places second in batting and hits (146) through 117 games.

Jannis pitched to a 2.98 ERA in eight games (seven starts) for St. Lucie after signing out of the independent Atlantic League. The 27-year old also made one start at Double-A Binghamton, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings. He was a 44th-round selection of Tampa Bay in 2010.

New York signed Wheeler as a free agent in 2011 out of the University of California, Santa Barbara. The 26-year old is 5-1 with a 3.69 ERA in 40 relief appearances for Binghamton this season.

Players from the Mets, Blue Jays, D-Backs, Nationals and Rockies will combine to form the Salt River Rafters, who play their games in Scottsdale, Ariz,. Binghamton pitching coach Marc Valdes will serve the same role for Salt River, which is scheduled to open Oct. 13 at home against the Scottsdale Scorpions.
