Mets refute former executive's lawsuit

NEW YORK -- The Mets responded on Wednesday to a lawsuit filed by a former executive, stating that the claims contained in it are "without merit."

Former senior Mets executive Leigh Castergine filed suit against the Mets and COO Jeff Wilpon, alleging that the team dismissed her last month on grounds of "discrimination on the basis of sex, pregnancy, marital status and retaliation."

The Mets responded with the following statement: "We have received and reviewed the complaint. The claims are without merit. Our organization maintains strong policies against any and all forms of discrimination."

Castergine served as the Mets' head of ticket sales and service operations from 2010 until her termination in August.
