Mets sign RHP David Aardsma

The New York Mets today announced the club signed righthanded pitcher David Aardsma to a minor league contract and assigned him to Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League.

Aardsma, 31, opened the season with Miami's Triple-A affiliate, New Orleans (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League, going 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA (four earned runs/14.0 innings) in 10 games. The Marlins released the righthander on May 15. He went to Spring Training with the New York Yankees, but was designated for assignment on March 29.

Aardsma last appeared in the major leagues in 2012 with the Yankees, pitching one game and allowing a run in one inning. He saved a combined 69 games for the Mariners over the 2009 and 2010 seasons, but underwent elbow ligament replacement surgery in July, 2011. For his career, Aardsma is 13-15 with a 4.22 ERA (125 earned runs/266.2 innings) in 255 games.
