Brewers prospect Roache has three-HR game

In his brief professional career, Victor Roache has shown two things: He's a slow starter, and the power that made him a first-round pick in 2012 is very much legitimate.

Roache, the Brewers' No. 7 prospect had the power on full display on Sunday in the Florida State League. Hitting sixth in the Class A advanced Brevard County lineup, the Georgia Southern product homered three times in an 11-5 Manatees victory.

Roache hit solo shots in the second and fourth innings and added a two-run blast in the fifth. He now has five homers on the season. They were his first home runs since April 14. He's now hitting .213/.286/.407 on the season with 18 RBIs.

The rather pedestrian numbers shouldn't surprise anyone who watched Roache during his first full pro season. Last year in the Midwest League was Roache's pro debut, having missed his first summer as he recovered from a broken wrist suffered during his junior season at Georgia Southern. Maybe it took the No. 28 overall pick from the 2012 First-Year Player Draft a bit to shake off the rust, but he hit just .209/.303/.341 with six homers in 50 first-half games after making his debut on April 21.

The second half was a different story. The left fielder hit .274/.334/.505 with 16 homers in 69 games. Could this three-homer game be the start of another breakout? It may have begun before the power surge as Roache extended his hitting streak to five games on Sunday. He's gone 9-for-24 in that span with the three homers, a double and a triple.
