Brewers sign catcher Ashley to Minor League deal

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers added another catcher to help handle the Spring Training workload Monday when Nevin Ashley inked a Minor League contract that includes an invitation to big league camp.

Ashley, 30, is a former sixth-round Draft pick of the Rays who played seven seasons in that organization before moving to Triple-A assignments in Cincinnati's (2013) and Pittsburgh's (2014) systems. He's a career .257/.351/.380 hitter in 2,992 professional plate appearances.

Ashley has played parts of the past five seasons at the Triple-A level. Juan Centeno, claimed off waivers from the Mets this offseason, is likely to handle most of the catching duties for the Brewers at Triple-A Colorado Springs next season.
