Twins claim left-hander Raley from Cubs
Southpaw added to 40-man roster, will report for start of camp
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins claimed left-hander Brooks Raley off waivers from the Cubs, the club announced Wednesday.
Raley, 25, was officially added to the 40-man roster and will report to Fort Myers, Fla., on time for Spring Training. Twins pitchers and catchers are set to report on Sunday.
The 6-foot-3 southpaw made nine relief appearances with the Cubs last season, posting a 5.14 ERA with 14 strikeouts and eight walks in 14 innings. He was mostly used as a starting pitcher at Triple-A Iowa, making 25 starts and two relief appearances. He had a 4.46 ERA with 95 strikeouts and 45 walks in 141 1/3 innings.
He also made five starts with the Cubs in 2012, posting an 8.14 ERA with 16 strikeouts and 11 walks in 24 1/3 innings. He fared much better in the Minor Leagues that season, with a 3.58 ERA and 98 strikeouts and 40 walks in 130 2/3 innings split between Double-A Tennessee and Iowa.
Raley was originally drafted by the Cubs in the sixth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas A&M University. The San Antonio, Texas, native has a career 3.92 ERA with 375 strikeouts and 176 walks in 555 1/3 innings in the Minor Leagues.
