Twins' top prospect Buxton gets first hit of '14
Activated from DL Sunday, MLB.com's No. 1 prospect homers Tuesday
Outfielder Byron Buxton, ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect by MLB.com, began the season on the disabled list with a sprained left wrist. After missing a month, he was activated on Sunday and went hitless in his first two games.
That short skid ended in the first inning on Tuesday in a big way. Buxton drove his first hit of the season over the left-field wall for a two-run home run, helping power Class A Advanced Fort Myers to a 4-0 victory against Bradenton.
Buxton finished the game 1-for-3. He is now 1-for-10 with five strikeouts since returning to action.
Buxton isn't expected to stay in Fort Myers much longer. He excelled in the Florida State League last year as a 19-year-old and, before his injury, the Twins had planned to start him at Double-A New Britain this year.
For now, however, he is part of a prospect-laden lineup for the Miracle. Five of the players in Tuesday's starting lineup were ranked among MLB.com's Top 20 Twins prospects. That included first baseman Max Kepler (No. 14), who also homered. It was the second home run of the season for the German native, who is now hitting .222.
