MLB, MLBPA announce joint donation of $250,000 to aid South Carolina flood victims

Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association today announced that they are jointly contributing $250,000 to assist victims of the devastating floods that have ravaged parts of South Carolina.

Some of the hardest hit areas in South Carolina are those that many current and former Major Leaguers call home. With that in mind, and after consultation with several area Players, the $250,000 contribution is being divided among three charitable organizations capable of lending assistance to the neediest victims. The Red Cross of South Carolina receives a $125,000 contribution, Harvest Hope Food Bank $100,000 and NewSpring Church $25,000.

Today's contributions follow a long history of joint-support provided by Major League Baseball and the Players to victims of natural disasters, and the parties encourage others to join in this effort to help assist with the area's relief efforts.

Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. said: "Major League Baseball and its 30 Clubs are honored to support these worthy relief efforts in South Carolina in partnership with the Players Association. The National Pastime is united in making this contribution, and we will continue to keep the people of the affected communities in our thoughts during this time of need."

MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark said: "Major Leaguers are proud to be joining with the Commissioner's Office to help lend a hand to those organizations working to bring relief to the hardest hit areas in South Carolina. The Players care deeply about their neighbors and the places they call home, and they are committed to helping support the efforts of those dedicated to helping area residents return to a life or normalcy as quickly as possible."
