Shortstop could change uniforms for first time in career
When the dust settled on Friday's 5 p.m. deadline, three players were revealed to have accepted qualifying offers, with a fourth signing a multi-year deal to stay with his current team.
The remaining 16 players will stay on the market as clubs continue to negotiate and work trades -- including one Friday that sent closer Craig Kimbrel from San Diego to Boston -- in an effort to improve rosters in advance of the 2016 season.

Padres interested in Desmond
Among the free agents to decline qualifying offers on Friday was Ian Desmond, who could be changing uniforms for the first time in his career. The Padres are reportedly interested in signing Desmond, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Desmond has spent each of his seven years in the big leagues with the Nationals, the franchise that selected him in the third round of the 2004 Draft. He's coming off a down year after batting a career-low .233 with 19 homers in 2015. The 30-year-old shortstop is a career .264/.312/.424 hitter.
The Padres made a big splash Friday night, sending closer Kimbrel to the Red Sox in exchange for four Minor Leaguers. Signing Desmond would mean parting with an unprotected Draft pick after he declined the qualifying offer from the Nationals.

Managerial search advancing in LA
The search for the next Dodgers manager continues in Los Angeles, where a second round of interviews is scheduled for next week.
Multiple reports indicate that from the original nine interviewed, Gabe Kapler, Bud Black and Dave Roberts will move to the next round. Darin Erstad also has been included in some reports, but other reports indicate he has withdrawn his name from consideration. The team has yet to confirm any reports.
Of the remaining candidates, only Black has managed in the big leagues before. Kapler is currently LA's farm director, Roberts is on the coaching staff in San Diego and Erstad is the head coach at the University of Nebraska.
The Dodgers are seeking a replacement for departed skipper Don Mattingly, now in Miami. With Mattingly at the helm, the Dodgers went 446-363 over the last five years.

Chapman on the move soon?
Kimbrel may not be the only big-name reliever to change teams this weekend. MLB Network's Peter Gammons tweeted Friday that, according to multiple sources, he expects Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman to be dealt by the end of the week.
The 27-year-old southpaw was previously linked to the Red Sox, who would seemingly be out of the running after acquiring Kimbrel.

"We'll listen to anybody," Reds president of baseball operations Walt Jocketty said earlier this week. "We're willing to listen, and I think we have to in our situation. We're not going to trade guys just for the purpose of trading them. We have to make sure we get the right value to build this team into a contending club for the next couple years."
Chapman recorded 33 saves and posted a 1.63 ERA last season, striking out 116 batters in 66 1/3 innings. He's eligible to become a free agent after the 2016 season.
