Golf with Scherzer part of Meetings auction

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Want to play golf with Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer during Spring Training? How about lunch with manager Dusty Baker and his coaching staff?

As part of the fourth annual Winter Meetings charity auction, MLB, MLB Advanced Media, MLB Network and all 30 teams are putting a long list of items and events up for bid. This year's auction runs through 9 p.m. ET on Thursday on MLB.com and will help benefit cancer research.

Bid on auction packages

This auction initiative has raised nearly $500,000 since its inception and a significant portion of the proceeds from the event will go to Stand Up To Cancer, a longtime partner of Major League Baseball, its founding donor in 2008. In addition, this year's auction will benefit Do It For Durrett, in honor of the late Texas Rangers ESPN.com reporter Richard Durrett, who died suddenly last year, and the YouCaring page established for Miami Marlins Sun Sentinel beatwriter Juan C. Rodriguez, who is currently battling a brain tumor.

When it comes to golfing with Scherzer, the winning bidder and a guest will join the ace pitcher for a complimentary round of golf during 2016 Spring Training in Viera, Fla. Winners are responsible for travel to Viera and hotel accommodations. Date, time and course will be determined later.

A winner and one lucky guest will join Baker and his coaches for lunch in the Nationals' clubhouse prior to a 7 p.m. ET game during the 2016 season. Lunch will be provided by the Nats, and Baker will host the guests for one hour (11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.). The package also includes two game tickets, batting practice field passes and access to Baker's postgame news conference.
