Report: Nats interview Dodgers' Wallach
Bench coach has history with franchise as Expos third baseman
WASHINGTON -- The Nationals continue to search for their sixth full-time manager in 11 years. According to Yahoo Sports, the Nationals interviewed Dodgers bench coach Tim Wallach recently.
The Nationals are looking to hire a manager after dismissing Matt Williams on Oct. 5. The team has already interviewed Phil Nevin, Dusty Baker, Bud Black, Ron Wotus, Ron Gardenhire and Andy Green.
Wallach has a history with the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals franchise -- he is arguably the best third baseman in Expos history, hitting .259 with 204 home runs, 905 RBIs and winning three Gold Gloves while with the team. After his playing career ended, Wallach became a Minor League manager starting in 1998. In four seasons at the helm, Wallach has a 270-297 record. His best season occurred in 2009, when he guided Triple-A Albuquerque to an 80-64 record.
During his time as a coach with the Dodgers, Wallach was a hitting instructor, third-base coach and bench coach.
With the Cubs out of the of the postseason picture, it would not be a surprise if the Nationals interviewed Cubs bench coach Dave Martrinez, who finished second behind Williams during the interviewing process in 2013.
Martinez doesn't have any managerial experience, but being Joe Maddon's bench coach the last nine years doesn't hurt.
