Nats-Mets postponed; twin bill today

WASHINGTON -- Friday night's game between the Nationals and Mets at Citi Field was postponed because of rain. The two teams will play a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game starting at 1:10 p.m. ET and the nightcap starting at 7:10 p.m.

In the first game of the doubleheader, left-hander Gio Gonzalez will take the mound for Washington against Noah Syndergaard. In his last start, Gonzalez was cruising against the Phillies until the sixth inning, when he struggled to find the strike zone. He took a no-decision in the Nats' 12-5 loss.

Right-hander Max Scherzer will pitch the nightcap for Washington, facing Matt Harvey. In his last start, Scherzer won his 13th game of the season, carrying a no-hitter into the eighth. He is one of three pitchers in the Majors this season to record at least 10 starts with 10 or more strikeouts. Scherzer also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Mets and Dodgers, who will meet in next week's National League Division Series, entered Friday with identical 89-70 records. Although home-field advantage for that NLDS hasn't yet been determined, the Mets hold the tiebreaker with L.A., having won four of the teams' seven meetings this season. The Dodgers were set to open a three-game series against the visiting Padres on Friday night.
