Lagares won the award for the abbreviated week coming out of the All-Star break by going 7-for-10 (.700) in the Mets' weekend series against the Phillies. The seven hits tied for a Major League best, while Lagares also ranked second in the NL in slugging percentage (1.200) and tied for third with five RBIs. He also pitched in two doubles and a home run in the three-game set.

His impressive second-half start commenced on Friday with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double, an RBI and a run scored in a 13-8 loss. Lagares then tied a career high with three hits on Saturday, contributing another double and an RBI, in a 5-4 victory. The 24-year-old posted a third straight multihit game on Sunday, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a career-high-tying three RBIs.
