Francis made nine appearances with Oakland, going 0-1 with a 6.08 ERA and one save in 13 1/3 innings after the club selected him off waivers from the Reds on May 18.

"We were always trying to have that depth," said manager Bob Melvin. "New York's had some injuries and it makes sense and we wish him the best."

In 10 appearances with the A's and Cincinnati this season, Francis is 0-2 with a 5.89 ERA.
