Orioles-Rays game postponed due to weather

BALTIMORE -- The Orioles and Rays game on Tuesday night was postponed due to inclement weather and the makeup date will be announced at a later time. Baltimore made the announcement to call the game shortly before 5:30 p.m. with heavy rain and cold temperatures sweeping the area all day.

Because of the rainout, both the Rays and the Orioles will wear No. 42 on Wednesday afternoon in honor of Jackie Robinson, who was recognized throughout the league on Tuesday.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter floated the idea of a straight doubleheader on Wednesday, but that did not come to fruition with the expectation that the club will officially announce a makeup date in the next day or so. One option is a mutual off-day in June.

Tuesday's postponement comes at a favorable time for both clubs with a bug going around in the Orioles clubhouse with hitting coach Jim Presley and Brian Matusz sick recently and Evan Meek and Adam Jones both sent home with flu-like symptoms on Tuesday afternoon. The Rays had also changed their scheduled starter from Jake Odorizzi, who was also sick and sent home, to Brandon Gomes.

After the rainout, the Rays will push back their starters so Odorizzi is now scheduled to face Miguel Gonzalez in Wednesday afternoon's game.

Fans are encouraged to keep their tickets and parking information until the club announces the rescheduling plans.
