Snider released, closing tenure with Orioles

BALTIMORE -- Outfielder Travis Snider, who was brought over to the Orioles in executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette's biggest offseason move, has been released, the team announced on Saturday.

Designated for assignment on Friday, Snider batted .237 with a .341 slugging percentage in 69 games for the Orioles. In 211 at-bats, he hit three home runs. Snider, acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates, was coming off a 2014 season in which he hit .264/.338/.438 and Duquette cited Snider's relative youth and a strong second half for primary reasons for the deal.

In 60 second-half games last year, Snider hit nine homers and had 24 RBIs, posting a .288/.356/.524 line. He is the latest Orioles outfielder to be designated, joining Alejandro De Aza and Delmon Young, who were both released, as well as Chris Parmelee and David Lough, who was designated on Friday.

Snider is making $2.1 million this year.
