Orioles select RHP Hunter Harvey in first round of 2013 Draft

The Orioles tonight selected RHP HUNTER HARVEY of Bandys (NC) High School with their first selection of the 2013 First Year Player Draft, the 22nd overall pick of the draft. The Orioles also selected OF JOSH HART at #37 overall from Parkview (GA) HS and CA CHANCE SISCO at #61 overall from Santiago (CA) HS.

Harvey, 18, went 8-0 in 11 games (eight starts) with a 0.38 ERA this season, racking up 116 strikeouts in 54.2 innings pitched, following a 7-0 record and 1.81 ERA in 54.0 innings as a junior in 2012. The 6-foot-3, 175 pound right-hander is the son of former major leaguer Bryan Harvey, a nine-year major league veteran who collected 177 saves for the Angels and Marlins from 1987-95 and made two MLB All-Star teams (1991 and 93). Harvey is the third consecutive right-handed pitcher taken by the Orioles in the first round, following DYLAN BUNDY (2011, also a high school selection) and KEVIN GAUSMAN (2012, LSU).

Hart, 18, batted .449/.560/.757 (48-107) with 18 extra-base hits, 29 RBI, 39 runs scored and 34 steals in 36 attempts in 36 games this year. The 5-foot-11, 180 pound left-handed outfielder was a 3rd Team All-American in 2013 and was part of state title winning teams in 2011 and 2012.

Sisco, 18, is a 6-foot-1, 190 pound, left-handed hitting, right-handed throwing catcher. He was named a 2013 Rawlings 3rd Team All-American and a California All-Region 1st Team.

It is the first time the Orioles selected high school players with each of their first three selections since 1998.

The draft will continue tomorrow on MLB.com with rounds 3-10, beginning at 12:30 p.m., and conclude on Saturday, with rounds 11-40.
