Overturned safe call sends A's-Rays to extras

ST. PETERSBURG -- A's manager Bob Melvin won his fourth replay challenge in 10 tries this year in the ninth inning at Tropicana Field on Thursday, when a safe call of Desmond Jennings' stolen base was overturned.

The Rays' Jennings was ruled safe by second-base umpire Pat Hoberg with two outs in a tied game on a stolen-base attempt, and A's second baseman Eric Sogard signaled Melvin out of the dugout, believing he made the tag.

Melvin challenged the ruling, and the overturned call ended the frame in an eventual 11-inning game that saw the Rays win, 5-2, on a walk-off home run.
