Luebke suffers setback during rehab

PITTSBURGH -- Cory Luebke's path back to the big leagues after two Tommy John surgeries has hit a snag.

Luebke, currently on a rehabilitation stint with Triple-A El Paso, has returned to San Diego, where he'll be examined Tuesday by team doctor Heinz Hoenecke after recently feeling some discomfort in his left elbow.

Luebke, 30, last appeared in a game on June 30. He had essentially been throwing one inning ever three days during a rehabilitation stint that began on June 13 with Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore.

Luebke had his first reconstructive surgery on his left elbow in May 2012 and then, after he was well into his rehabilitation program, needed a revision in February 2014.

In all, Luebke has had seven outings in the Minor Leagues this season, with Lake Elsinore, Double-A San Antonio and now El Paso. He has a 3.86 ERA in seven innings, allowing three hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Luebke hasn't appeared in a Major League game since April 27, 2012. He's 10-12 with a 3.25 ERA in 188 1/3 career innings with the Padres from 2010-12.
