Padres extend deal with Triple-A Tucson through '14

The Padres on Friday extended their player development contract with Triple-A Tucson through 2014.

"We are glad to continue our relationship with Tucson," Padres executive vice president and general manager Josh Byrnes said. "Triple-A is an important level in the development of a player and we value Tucson as a critical part of our developmental process."

Tucson just completed its second season as an affiliate for the Padres. Eighteen players have come through Tucson to make their Major League debuts for the Padres since the affiliation began.

"The Padres have been fortunate to have had a number of talented players come through Tucson over the last two years," Padres vice president of player development and international scouting Randy Smith said. "We look forward to continuing to develop talented players to help the Major League team."

The Padres now have reached two-year extensions with all of their Minor League affiliates.
