Phillies 9th Annual Softball Carpenter Cup to begin on Monday, June 24

Best local female high school players take the field for tournament

Over 250 young women from the tri-state region will once again have the chance to compete in front of college scouts at the Phillies Softball Carpenter Cup, which begins Monday, June 24, at the FDR Park softball fields five and six (entrance located on Pattison Avenue just off Broad Street) and runs through Thursday, June 27.

These top high school softball players will play in the four day, 30-game tournament, composed of 16 teams representing 20 different leagues, and them an opportunity to show off their talents in front of college scouts.

"The Softball Carpenter Cup tournament gives local female athletes a chance to demonstrate their skills on the field," said Meghan Essman, Phillies Director, Fan Development & Educational Programs. "It continues to be a vehicle for many players to receive scholarships or admission to some of the country's finest universities."

Games begin at 9:00 a.m. each day and feature free admission and parking.

The inaugural tournament took place in June of 2005 with Delaware South (Gold) claiming the first title. The SOL Bicentennial team took the title last year.
