Phillies add four players to 40-man roster

Outfielder Zach Collier and right-handed pitchers Ethan Martin, Trevor May and Jonathan Pettibone had their contracts selected to the 40-man roster, the Phillies announced today.
 
Collier, 22, spent last season with single-A Clearwater where he hit .269 with 13 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 32 RBI in 78 games. With runners in scoring position in 2012, he batted .293 with 26 RBI. The Long Beach, Calif., native was originally selected by the Phillies in between the first and second rounds (34th overall) of the June 2008 draft.
 
Acquired in the trade for outfielder Shane Victorino in July, Martin combined to go 13-6 with a 3.48 ERA in 27 double-A starts between Chattanooga and Reading.  The 23-year-old posted a 5-0 record with a 3.18 ERA in his seven starts for Reading. Martin, originally a first-round selection (15th overall) of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the June 2008 draft, is a native of Athens, Ga.
 
May went 10-13 with a 4.87 ERA in 28 starts for double-A Reading and led the Eastern League with 151 strikeouts.  The 2011 Paul Owens Award winner led Reading’s staff in several categories including wins, innings (149.2) and starts. Originally from Longview, Wash., May, 23, was a fourth-round selection of the Phillies in the June 2008 draft.
 
Pettibone, 22, split last season between double-A Reading and triple-A Lehigh Valley.  In a combined 26 starts between both levels, the Placentia, Calif. native went 13-8 and posted a 3.10 ERA with two complete games and a shutout. He finished the season with Lehigh Valley where he pitched to a 4-1 record with a 2.55 ERA in seven starts. Pettibone was selected by the Phillies between the third and fourth rounds of the June 2008 draft.
 
With the additions of Collier, Martin, May and Pettibone, the Phillies now have 38 players on the 40-man roster.
