Revere suffers broken right foot on foul ball

Phils center fielder lands on DL; Kratz activated

PHILADELPHIA -- This could not have come at a worse time for the Phillies.

Center fielder Ben Revere broke his right foot during Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the White Sox at Citizens Bank Park, and he was placed on the disabled list Sunday morning. Revere will go on the disabled list and be evaluated Monday by a specialist.

Revere fouled a ball off his foot during his plate appearance in the 11th inning of a 5-4 loss. He stayed in the game and ran out a game-ending double-play grounder.

"It was tough. I couldn't believe it, if you want to know the truth," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "Absolutely I couldn't believe it. He told me in there, 'My foot is aching a little bit. It's a little tight. It'll be all right.' I said, 'I'll give you a blow if you need it.' He said, 'Yeah.' Then they told me he had a broken [foot]."

Revere entered the doubleheader hitting .347 since the end of April, which was the sixth-best batting average in baseball in that stretch.

Catcher Erik Kratz, who was on the disabled list for more than a month with a meniscus tear in his left knee, was activated from the DL to take Revere's spot on the roster.
