Pipeline preview: Dodgers, Halos affiliates to battle

Minor League clubs of Freeway Series rivals face off in Triple-A, Class A matchups

Though the Dodgers and Angels won't renew their Freeway Series until August, their affiliates at two levels are in the midst of their own rivalry series. The Angels' farm clubs lead both series after a pair of victories Tuesday.

In the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, Salt Lake defeated Albuquerque, 7-4. That game was marred by an altercation between Albuquerque teammates Alex Guerrero and Miguel Olivio that led to Olivo biting Guerrero's ear.

Fans can watch on MiLB.TV as the Isotopes try to salvage a split in the four-game series, as it concludes Wednesday at 8:35 p.m. ET.

In the Class A Advanced California League, the focus remained on baseball as Inland Empire defeated Rancho Cucamonga, 5-3, in the first game of a three-game set. The Quakes will turn to left-hander Julio Urias, the Dodgers' No. 3 prospect, as they look to even the series Wednesday at 10:05 p.m.

Urias, ranked No. 54 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, is just 17 years old, making him the youngest player in the California League. After breaking out as a 16-year-old in the Midwest League last season, he is once again proving he belongs with his older teammates. In eight games this season, Urias has a 4.91 ERA and has struck out 29 batters in 25 2/3 innings.

Inland Empire is led by shortstop Jose Rondon, the Angels' No. 6 prospect. He is hitting .339 with a .782 OPS. Rondon has a hit in 12 of his last 13 games and is hitting .466 with a 1.078 OPS during that stretch.

In addition to Urias, a few pitchers ranked in the Top 100 are scheduled to start Wednesday including Noah Syndergaard (No. 10), Matt Wisler (No. 67), Nick Kingham (No. 91) and Daniel Norris (No. 100). Fans can watch Syndergaard, Wisler and Kingham on MiLB.TV, beginning with Kingham and Double-A Altoona hosting Akron at 10:30 a.m.
