Worley gets $2.45 million salary via arbitration
Righty's award puts Pirates even in hearings with Alvarez on deck
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Vance Worley prevailed in his arbitration hearing with the Pirates, the three-member panel finding for his request of a $2.45 million salary for 2015.
The Bucs had offered $2 million for the right-hander, who will start competing for a spot in the team's rotation when Spring Training kicks off next week in Bradenton, Fla.
Tuesday's decision left the Pirates 1-1 in arbitration hearings this month and set the club's all-time record in the process at 11-11. The Pirates, who got an earlier decision over second baseman Neil Walker, still have a hearing to go with infielder Pedro Alvarez.
Worley's salary set the commitments on Pittsburgh's 2015 payroll at $75,687,500.
Acquired from Minnesota late in Spring Training last year, Worley began the season with a month in Triple-A and re-established himself immediately after merging into the Pirates' rotation in mid-June. He went 8-4 with a 2.85 ERA, in 17 starts -- eight times pitching at least into the seventh inning without allowing more than three runs.
