Montero, Brugman are Pipeline Prospects of the Week

Pipeline Hitting Prospect of the Week: Jaycob Brugman, Stockton Ports
A's No. 20 prospect, 6 G, 10-for-22 (.455/.520/1.136), 1.656 OPS, 5 HR, 8 RBI, 6 R, 3 SB

Brugman wasn't known for his power while he was at BYU, but he fit right into Stockton's powerful lineup last week. He homered in four straight games to close out the week, finishing with a two-homer game Sunday. Brugman hit five home runs in all, half of his total hits for the week. He scored in all but one game and drove in eight runs.

Brugman's power binge helped him outhomer last week his teammates Matt Olson and Renato Nunez, who rank first and second in the California League in home runs. In 31 games since joining Stockton in July, Brugman is hitting .270/.313/.508 with seven home runs.

Brugman, the A's 17th-round pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, began the season with Class A Beloit. He hit .278/.371/.484 with eight home runs in 70 games before earning a promotion.

Pipeline Pitching Prospect of the Week: Rafael Montero, Las Vegas 51s

Montero has had an up-and-down season, swinging from the high of getting called up to the big leagues for the first time in May to the low of a stint on the disabled list in Triple-A Las Vegas due to a strained oblique the next month.

Tuesday, his lone start of the week, was another highlight for Montero. He struck out 11 batters in eight scoreless innings, both season highs, against Sacramento. Montero held the River Cats to just one hit and two walks. He retired the final 12 batters he faced to complete his second straight scoreless start.

With the victory, Montero improved to 6-3 with a 3.28 ERA in 15 starts with Las Vegas this season. He has struck out 75 batters and walked 32 in 74 innings.
