Rain finds its way inside Chase Field

PHOENIX -- The weather typically doesn't have much of a presence at Chase Field, where the roof is closed on a nightly basis in the summer once the temperatures soar over 100 degrees.

However in Friday night's Giants-D-backs game, a rare storm passed through the area and the rain found a way inside.

During the middle innings, leaks in the roof allowed a few steady streams of rain to come down into the stadium. There was one above the seats of the lower concourse, another behind home plate up against the fence, and a smaller one above the pitching mound.

Puddles formed in these areas and for once, fans at Chase Field felt some weather in the 82-degree, air-conditioned stadium.

D-backs manager Chip Hale said he felt the rain had no effect on any of his pitchers. It also was not substantial enough to halt play to make a repair, and the storm quickly passed through after a brief 10-to-15 minute period.
