Perez sharp for Frisco in first rehab start

ARLINGTON -- Rangers pitcher Martin Perez, who underwent Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery on May 19, 2014, had a strong first start for Double-A Frisco on Wednesday night.

Perez, pitching in a game for the first time since May 10, 2014, went 2 2/3 innings against San Antonio and allowed one run on five hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out four. Perez threw 45 pitches, including 33 for strikes, and his fastball hit 94 mph.

"So far so good, and the positive is that my arm feels good," Perez told Fox Sports Southwest reporter Anthony Andro. "That's all I wanted to feel. My focus now is finishing my rehab assignment, and when they make the decision, I want to be ready. I don't know how many starts I need to go."

Perez is scheduled to throw a bullpen on Friday in Arlington when the Rangers return home. His next start is Monday for Triple-A Round Rock.
