Rangers receive LHP Edgar Olmos from Seattle on waiver claim; Place INF Jurickson Profar on 60-day disabled list

Surprise, Arizona - The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has received left-handed pitcher Edgar Olmos (#79) from the Seattle Mariners on a waiver claim. To make room on the 40-man roster for Olmos, the Rangers have placed infielder Jurickson Profar on the 60-day disabled list following right shoulder surgery.

Olmos, 24, was designated for assignment by Seattle on February 18 when the Mariners announced the signing of Rickie Weeks. He had been sent from the Miami Marlins to Seattle in a waiver claim on November 20. Prior to this offseason, Olmos spent his entire career in the Marlins system since being selected in the 3rd round of the 2008 June draft. He split last season between Jacksonville (AA) and New Orleans (AAA), going a combined 3-3 with 3 saves and a 4.06 ERA (35 ER/77.2 IP) in 51 relief appearances. His only major league action came with the Marlins in 2013, when he had an 0-1 record while allowing 4 earned runs in 5.0 innings spanning 5 relief appearances.

Profar underwent right shoulder surgery yesterday, February 23, at the Trinity Surgery Center in Arlington. During the procedure, Rangers Team Physician Dr. Keith Meister repaired a labrum tear in the shoulder. Profar is expected to be sidelined for the entire 2015 season.

With the addition of Olmos, the Rangers now have 64 players on the club's spring training roster: a full 40-man roster, 23 non-roster invitees, and one player on the 60-day disabled list (Profar).
