Rays designate Allen for assignment

NEW YORK -- Outfielder Brandon Allen was reinstated from the disabled list and designated for assignment on Wednesday.

Allen, 26, hit .100 (2-for-20) in 10 games for the Rays before injuring his right quadriceps on May 9. He is out of options, so he must clear waivers in order to be sent to the Minor Leagues.

Allen's best moment for the Rays occurred on April 26 when he hit a two-run walk-off homer against the Angels for a 4-3 Rays win.
