Rea struggles in his Triple-A debut

Streaking Single-A Fort Wayne moves to top of Midwest League

Right-handed starting pitcher Colin Rea had a rough outings Friday night in his first outing since being promoted to Triple-A El Paso.

Rea, 25, who was 3-2 with a Texas League-leading 1.08 earned run average in 12 starts for double-A San Antonio, allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings for Triple-A El Paso.
Left-hander Brad Wieck had a better outing in his first start for high Single-A Lake Elsinore, although he was pegged for the loss.

Wieck, who was 2-0, 2.61 ERA in two starts for low Single-A Fort Wayne since being acquired from the Mets as the player-to-be-named later in the Alex Torres trade, allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings.

Meanwhile, low Single-A Fort Wayne got a combined shutout from right-handers Ernesto Montas and Colby Blueberg to move into a tie for the second half lead in the Midwest League's Eastern Division.

Montas (7-5, 3.33 ERA) allowed six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in seven innings as he became the first pitcher in the Padres' minor league system to reach seven wins. Blueberg (1.26 ERA) struck out three in two perfect innings to get his 11th save in Fort Wayne's 1-0 win at Dayton.

Left fielder Nick Torres (.336) was 2-for-4 with a double as the TinCaps (38-39, 6-3) won a third straight game and a 10th in their last 13 games. Third baseman Luis Tejada (.294) had a double in two at-bats with two walks and scored the game's only run. Catcher Jose Ruiz (.181) was 1-for-3 with the game's lone RBI.

In the day's only move, infielder Diego Goris was activated from the disabled list at San Antonio.

AROUND THE FARM:

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (40-41): Fresno 9, CHIHUAHUAS 5 - CF Abraham Almonte (.298) was 3-for-5 with a run scored. 1B Tommy Medica (.244) was 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI. LHP Chris Rearick (5.27 ERA) followed Rea and allowed a hit and two walks with a strikeout in three innings. RHP Leonel Campos (3.66) allowed a walk with four strikeouts in 1 2/3
hitless innings. RHP Cory Mazzoni (1-3, 3.72 ERA) allowed four runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (35-43): Missions 4, SPRINGFIELD 2 - RHP Elliot Morris (3-7, 4.80 ERA) allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk with a strikeout in seven innings. RHP Stephen Kohlscheen (2.65) allowed two hits with two strikeouts in a scoreless inning. RHP Tayron Guerrero (3.16 ERA) allowed a walk with a strikeout in a scoreless ninth to get his eighth save. CF Alberth Martinez (.265) had a three-run double in four at-bats. RF Hunter Renfroe (.251) was 2-for-4. 1B Luis Domoromo (.221) was 2-for-4.

HIGH SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (33-45): VISALIA 5, Storm 3 - SS Chase Jensen (.333) hit a three-run homer in four at-bats. 3B Ricardo Valenzuela was 2-for-4 with a double.

SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A TRI-CITY (8-8): DUST DEVILS 9, Everett 3 - Starting RHP Walker Lockett (1-0, 2.57 ERA) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts over six innings. RHP Aaron Cressley (0.00) struck out two in two perfect innings. 3B Ty France (.237) from San Diego State was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. 3B Nick Vitter (.364) was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. CF Justin Pacchioli (.235) was 0-for-2 with three walks, three steals (six on the season) and a run scored. LF Jose Carlos Urena (.269) had a homer in four at-bats with s steal, two RBIs and two runs scored.

ARIZONA ROOKIE PADRES (3-8): Royals 7, PADRES 3 - CF Aldemar Burgos (.321) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Starting RHP Jean Garcia (0-2, 6.08 ERA) allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. RHP Trevor Megill (3.00) allowed two hits with two strikeouts in two scoreless innings. RHP Braxton Lorenzini allowed a walk in two hitless innings in his professional debut.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE PADRES (13-17): REDS 11, Padres 7 - Starting LHP Eduardo Solano (2.74 ERA) allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings. RHP Starlin Cordero (9.42) made two errors and allowed an unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts in two innings. RHP Adonis Diaz (1-2, 5.40) allowed six runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts in two innings to take the loss. C Jose Lezama (.281) was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. 2B Elvis Sabala (.127) was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. 1B Emmanuel Arias (.278) was 2-for-4 with a double. LF Angel Santos (.264) was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
