Frazier day to day with slight Achilles strain
Reds third baseman injured on sliding attempt for foul popup
CINCINNATI -- Reds third baseman Todd Frazier exited early from the Reds' 4-1 loss to the Cubs on Tuesday night because of a slight strain of his right Achilles tendon. He is considered day to day.
With the Reds trailing, 4-0, in the top of the third inning, Frazier sustained the injury when he attempted to make a sliding catch up the line on Anthony Rizzo's foul popup and was unable to complete the play.
Frazier, who was 0-for-1 in the game, then came out before the top of the fourth inning in a double-switch. Ivan De Jesus Jr. moved from second base to third base, while Skip Schumaker played second base and took Frazier's fourth spot in the lineup.
"We felt it would get worse if he stayed out there and continued to play," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "We can't afford to lose any more players right now."
Frazier is batting .257 with a career-high and team-high 35 home runs, and he has recorded 88 RBIs.
