Groundhog Day: Lowell turns to 2007 World Series

Four-time All-Star recalls impactful moment from Red Sox's victory in Game 2 of Fall Classic

When MLB.com asked current and former players for their "Groundhog Day" moment, a day they'd want to live again, most of them picked something they would have liked to do differently. However, there were some who went a different direction, and instead selected a game (or play) they'd like to replay over and over because it was so memorable, which is the approach that Mike Lowell took.

Though it may have been difficult to pick only one day out of a 13-year career that featured two World Series championships and four All-Star appearances, Lowell was up to the task.

He selected Game 2 of the 2007 World Series as his "Groundhog Day" -- in the spirit of the 1993 film where Bill Murray relives one day over and over again.

"It was Game 2 of the World Series, bottom of the fifth, two outs, we were tied 1-1 and I hit a double down the third-base line to put our team up, 2-1," Lowell said. "When I got to second base -- when you see the Fenway crowd just go nuts in a game with such big implications -- it was a great feeling."

As it turns out, the Rockies would never recover from Lowell's crucial base hit. That 2-1 lead held up as the game's final score, and the Red Sox never trailed in Games 3 and 4 en route to the Series sweep.

Though the RBI double in Game 2 may have been Lowell's biggest hit of the Series, it was far from his only one. He went 6-for-15 (.400) with three doubles, a homer, four RBIs and even stole a base (his only steal in 34 career postseason games) en route to winning World Series MVP honors.

"If I could relive that every day," Lowell said, "my life would be great."
