Rios sidelined for at least a week with thumb injury

ARLINGTON -- Tim Bogar took over as Rangers manager on Friday and ran into the same problem Ron Washington has been dealing with all year. Another injury has hit the Rangers.

Outfielder Alex Rios will be sidelined for at least a week after developing an infection in his injured right thumb. Rios had the thumb drained on Friday.

Rios has been dealing with a bruised thumb since the All-Star break, but has been trying to play through it. He is hitting .211 with no home runs, 12 RBIs and a .281 slugging percentage since the break.

The Rangers are also without catcher Robinson Chirinos, who remains day to day with stiffness in his neck. He had an injection on Thursday and will need a couple of days for it to take effect.

With Rios and Chirinos out, Bogar was able to write his first Major League lineup on Friday with rookie catcher Tomas Telis batting third and Ryan Rua in the fifth spot. Telis and Rua were playing in their eighth Major League game since being called up from Triple-A on the last road trip. They were two of five rookies in the Rangers lineup.
