Rockies add former all-star RHP Doug Jones to Minor League staff
Jones Will be the Pitching Coach at Short Season-A Boise
DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced that the organization has hired former five-time All-Star right-handed pitcher Doug Jones to their Minor League staff as the Pitching Coach at Short Season-A Boise. Additionally, Dave Burba will be the new Pitching Coach at Double-A New Britain and Brandon Emmanuel will be the new Pitching Coach at High-A Modesto. Steve Merriman, who was previously hired to be the Pitching Coach at Double-A, has left the organization due to personal reasons.
The 2015 season will be Jones' first as a coach in professional baseball. He joins the Rockies organization after spending the past five years as the Pitching Coach at San Diego Christian College (2009-2014). Jones worked previously in professional baseball with the Arizona Diamondbacks for two seasons (2006-08) as a Special Assistant in the Minor Leagues. Jones played parts of 16 Major League seasons from 1982-2000. During his career, Jones suited up for the Milwaukee Brewers (1982, 1996-98), Cleveland Indians (1986-91, 1998), Houston Astros (1992-93), Philadelphia Phillies (1994), Baltimore Orioles (1995), Chicago Cubs (1996) and Oakland Athletics (1999-2000).
The Covina, Calif. native was named an All-Star five times (1988-1990, 1992, 1994) and finished his career with 303 saves, which currently ranks 24th all-time. Jones went 69-79 with a 3.30 ERA (1128.1 ip, 414 er) in 846 career Major League games. Jones' 846 career games rank 38th all-time in Major League baseball entering 2015.
Burba is entering his third season as a Pitching Coach for the Rockies. This will be his first season at Double-A. The Rockies announced the hiring of Emmanuel on January 8th, originally as the organization's Pitching Coach at Short Season-A Boise. Prior to joining the Rockies, Emmanuel was a Pitching Coach in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization for six seasons (2008-2013).
