Rockies avoid arbitration with RHP Adam Ottavino
Rockies and Ottavino agree to one-year deal for 2015
DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has avoided arbitration with right-handed pitcher Adam Ottavino by agreeing to a one-year deal. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, per club policy.
Ottavino, 29, is a veteran of parts of four Major League seasons, each of the last three coming with Colorado. The 6-foot-5 right-hander went 1-4 with one save, a 3.60 ERA (65.0 ip, 26 er), 16 walks and 70 strikeouts in a career-high 75 games in 2014. Since joining the Rockies in 2012, Ottavino has gone 7-8 with one save, a 3.60 ERA (222.1 ip, 89 er), 81 walks and 229 strikeouts in 179 games.
The Rockies claimed Ottavino off of waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals on April 3, 2012. He made his Major League debut with St. Louis in 2010, going 0-2 with an 8.46 ERA (22.1 ip, 21 er) in five games/three starts that season. Overall in his Major League career, Ottavino is 7-10 with a 4.05 ERA (244.2 ip, 110 er), 90 walks and 241 strikeouts in 184 games/three starts. The Brooklyn native was originally selected by St. Louis in the first round (30th overall) of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Northeastern University.
The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
