Helton pleads guilty to driving while ability impaired

DENVER -- Rockies first baseman Todd Helton pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while ability impaired, and was sentenced to a year's probation, a $400 fine and 24 hours of community service by an Adams County, Colo., court on Tuesday.

According to the Denver Post, Helton apologized in court.

"I am very regretful," Helton said, according to the report. "I've taken measures to ensure it never happens again."

The Post reported that prosecutors said Helton's blood alcohol test came in at .102. Colorado's legal limit is 0.08.

Helton was arrested during the early hours on Feb. 6, when he was spotted driving a pickup truck erratically in Thornton. Helton released a statement at the time apologizing for the incident. During Spring Training, he stood before his teammates and the media and reiterated his apology.

This season, Helton is batting .267 with one home run and 10 RBIs through 14 games. He missed some time with a left forearm strain, but returned to the lineup on Sunday.
