Royals in the Community: Royals Charities and Special Olympics partner for two events during homestand

As the Kansas City Royals return home for a nine-game stand against the Colorado Rockies, Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox, they will also partner with the Special Olympics of KC Metro for two fun-filled days. On May 12, Royals Charities will host its annual golf tournament, and on May 15 athletes will get to play on the field at The K during a Special Olympics clinic. In addition, Royals Charities will host a 50/50 Raffle, presented by Edelman & Thompson, each game throughout the 2014 season. Please see below for more information.

Saturday, May 10

  • Royalty Fields Ribbon Cutting - Royals Charities will celebrate the dedication of newly-renovated baseball/softball fields at Platte Ridge Park in Platte City, MO, as the result of a grant provided by Royals Charities through its Royalty Fields program. Monday, May 12 - Off Day

  • Royals Charities Celebrity Golf Tournament - Royals Charities hosts the seventh annual Royals Charities Celebrity Golf Tournament featuring current and former Royals at The National Golf Club of Kansas City in Parkville, Mo. Current Royals scheduled to participate include pitchers Jeremy Guthrie, James Shields and Jason Vargas, third baseman Mike Moustakas and more. DEMDACO serves as presenting sponsor of this sold-out tournament, and all proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics of KC Metro. The event will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Following the tournament, Royals Charities will host a reception for all golfers and celebrities.

Tuesday, May 13 - Colorado Rockies vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.
  • Royals Charities 50/50 Second Chance - Beginning this homestand and continuing through the rest of the season, fans who are residents of Missouri and purchase 50/50 tickets will get a second chance to win great prizes throughout the season. For more information, visit www.royals.com/chance.

Wednesday, May 14 - Colorado Rockies vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

  • Hosmer to Again Join Big Brothers Big Sisters Event - Big Brother Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City (BBBS-KC) will host "Step Up to the Plate with Eric Hosmer" from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Hosmer will appear at the event to recruit "Bigs" for more than 500 kids in the area waiting for a match.

Thursday, May 15 - Baltimore Orioles vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Special Olympics Clinic - The Royals welcome athletes from Special Olympics KC Metro to Kauffman Stadium from noon to 1:30 p.m. for a special on-field clinic and meet and greet session with Royals alumni Willie Wilson and Jim Eisenreich.

Friday, May 16 - Baltimore Orioles vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Royals Breast Cancer Awareness Night - The Royals will partner with Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City to highlight breast cancer awareness. The Komen Foundation will receive a portion of the proceeds from the 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman and Thompson, and the club will host a silent auction outside the Royals Authentics store. In addition, this year's Royals Honorary Bat Girl, Paige Lollar, will join the Royals on the field to watch batting practice prior to a special pregame ceremony celebrating breast cancer survivors.   • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. Unique auctions will take place throughout the weekend.

  • UMPS CARE - The Royals partner with Major League Baseball umpires to offer memorable baseball experiences for children awaiting adoption and at-risk youth in mentoring programs. The children receive a VIP experience including complimentary tickets, a baseball goody bag, and the unique opportunity to step onto the field for a souvenir baseball and photo.

Monday, May 19 - Chicago White Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

Tuesday, May 20 - Chicago White Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Baseball Tomorrow Fund and Royals Equipment Drive - With support from pitchers Kelvin Herrera and Yordano Ventura, the Royals invite fans to participate in an equipment drive benefiting Cristo Rey KC High School. From 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Cristo Rey volunteers will be collecting new or gently used baseball/softball equipment outside of the Kia Diamond Club. Fans can also make cash donations and receive autographed items. Fans will receive an autographed baseball for a $40 donation, and an autographed photo card for a $10 donation. In addition, Cristo Rey KC High School will also receive a $5,000 grant courtesy of Baseball Tomorrow Fund.

Wednesday, May 21 - Chicago White Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.
