Royals reach extension with Triple-A Omaha
Storm Chasers have been part of franchise since its inception in 1969
The Kansas City Royals on Monday announced a two-year extension with the Omaha Storm Chasers, their Triple-A affiliate. The agreement extends the partnership through the 2018 season, continuing the longest active affiliation at the Triple-A level and third-longest in the Minor Leagues.
"We have enjoyed the longest and one of the strongest relationships in all of Triple-A baseball," Storm Chasers president and general manager Martie Cordaro said in a statement. "We look forward to growing our relationship with the Royals even more in upcoming seasons."
Omaha has been aligned with the Royals since the franchise's inception in 1969, and in that span the Storms Chasers have amassed a 3,365-3,297 record and won 16 division titles, seven league championships and three Triple-A championships.
Over nearly five decades, the Storm Chasers have sent 848 players on to the big leagues, including many of the biggest names in Kansas City baseball, from Hall of Famer George Brett to 14 members of the Royals' 2015 World Series championship team.
