Rumor roundup: KC still in play for Gordon
The Hot Stove was lit anew Wednesday, as the Dodgers signed free-agent starting pitcher Scott Kazmir to a three-year deal.
The rumor mill was busy, too, with a number of other free agents also in the news. Here's a look at some of the latest rumblings circulating around the big leagues:
Gordon still in play for Royals
It certainly sounds like the Royals still have a chance to re-sign Alex Gordon.
Speaking to MLB Network's Harold Reynolds, Gordon denied recent reports that the Royals have "no chance" to bring him back, and added, "we're still in talks and hoping something works out [with Kansas City]."
While Gordon would welcome a return to the only organization he has ever known, he acknowledged the business aspect of free agency and said he's keeping his options open.
Kendrick on D-backs' radar
The D-backs are looking to add offense and have spoken to second baseman Howie Kendrick, according to a report in the Arizona Republic.
However, no deal appears imminent, and the club sounded reluctant to part with another Draft pick to sign Kendrick, who declined a 5.8 million qualifying offer to return to the Dodgers.
"I just don't know how far we're going to get down the road with that," D-backs general manager Dave Stewart told the newspaper.

The D-backs already forfeited a first-round pick in the 2016 Draft as a result of signing Zack Greinke, who declined a qualifying offer from the Dodgers.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers sound like they have moved on from Kendrick. They brought back veteran Chase Utley on a one-year deal earlier this month and also plan to use the versatile Kiké Hernandez at second base as well.
"We're not really actively in the market for infielders at this point," Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi told reporters.
Latest on Cespedes
The Orioles are not "remotely close" to signing free-agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, according to MASNsports.com.
Baltimore emerged as a finalist (along with the White Sox) to sign Cespedes, MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez reported Tuesday. The Angels, Giants and Rangers are all said to be monitoring Cespedes' market as well.
Cespedes, 30, has been reportedly seeking a six-year contract or at least a deal worth more than 00 million.
The O's don't sound willing to meet those demands, but they could be interested if Cespedes drops his price tag, according to MASNsports.com.
The White Sox, meanwhile, have had dialogue with Cespedes and fellow free-agent outfielders Justin Upton and Gordon, but they are not close to a deal with any player, according to USA Today.
