Safe call at first stands after Indians challenge
Tigers second baseman Kinsler beats throw after bunting in eighth inning
DETROIT -- With the Tigers trailing the Indians 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth on Wednesday night at Comerica Park, Detroit second baseman Ian Kinsler laid down a bunt and was called safe on a bang-bang play at first.
After Cleveland manager Terry Francona's challenge and a video review, the umpires ruled that the play stands, giving the Tigers two on with nobody out.
"There's no reason not to [challenge]," Francona said. "I don't know. I saw it on the scoreboard and I thought he was out. It's not going to hurt if we lose the challenge. He was safe anyway."
The next batter, Torii Hunter, grounded into a double play, sending the lead runner, Rajai Davis, to third. Miguel Cabrera singled in Davis on the following at-bat, cutting the Indians' lead to one.
The Indians won the game, 3-2.
