Giants win challenge in ninth on play at first

SAN FRANCISCO -- A video review Wednesday night benefited the Giants, who had a leadoff out in the ninth inning become an infield single.

Facing St. Louis Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal, Hunter Pence christened the inning with a grounder to second base and was initially ruled out at first base.

However, Giants manager Bruce Bochy challenged and replays showed that Pence's foot reached the bag before Mark Ellis' throw reached first baseman Matt Adams.

The call was overturned, but the Giants failed to score, preserving the Cardinals' 2-0 triumph.
