Schafer activated, slotted into lineup vs. Reds

CINCINNATI -- Putting Ryan Braun on the disabled list cleared a space on the roster for Logan Schafer, who has been out since April 17 with a strained right hamstring. He had rehab stints with Class A Brevard County and Triple-A Nashville and was in the lineup for the club's game against the Reds in Cincinnati on Saturday.

It's likely Schafer will be able to handle the full workload moving forward and won't have to be monitored in terms of building back strength or stamina.

"I'm just continuing my rehab -- strengthening and stretching," Schafer said. "I don't think there's a set schedule, like a day on, day off. I'm pretty much good to go. Hopefully I'll see myself in there a lot."

Schafer was hitting .214 over 10 games at the time of his injury. Having watched from the sidelines for the past two weeks, he lauded the Brewers' pitching, which has been the main reason the club was 21-9 entering Saturday's game. Schafer also realizes the offense is going to have to improve if the Brewers want to keep up this pace.

The Brewers are hitting .252 as a team, but have the second-lowest ERA in the league at 2.90.

"They've been keeping us in ballgames and winning ballgames for us throughout this first month," Schafer said of the pitching. "Our offense hasn't exactly been what we're capable of, but we've found ways to win games. It's early in the season. We've got five more months to go. I don't think there's any worry in here. We're going to start putting up runs. We're a pretty high-powered offense. Once everything starts clicking it's going to be really fun."
