Brosius joins Mariners as Triple-A hitting coach

Scott Brosius, the former big league infielder who has been coaching in the college ranks the last 13 years, is returning to the pros as hitting coach for the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers in the Mariners' organization.

After concluding his 11-year Major League career in 2001 with the Yankees, Brosius spent five seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Linfield College, and took over as head coach in 2008. He led the Wildcats to a 270-96 record, five conference titles, four regional titles and one national championship, in the process earning five Northwest Conference Coach of the Year honors.

Brosius, 49, rose from being a 20th-round choice by Oakland in the 1987 Draft to play 1,146 big league games with the A's and Yankees. In New York, he was part of three consecutive World Series championship teams, from 1998-2000.

Brosius participated in 58 postseason games with the Bombers, batting .245, with eight homers and 30 RBIs and reigning as MVP of the 1998 World Series.
