Tolleson earns Rangers Pitcher of the Year award

Right-hander Shawn Tolleson has been named the 2015 Texas Rangers Pitcher of the Year, as voted by the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Tolleson, who is the first reliever to win the award since Joaquin Benoit in 2007, was 6-4 with a 2.99 ERA and 35 saves in 73 appearances spanning 72 1/3 innings for the Rangers. The innings ranked third among American League relievers, while his save and appearance totals ranked fifth.

The 27-year-old Tolleson converted 35 of his 37 save opportunities for a 94.6 percent success rate, a Rangers club record and the second highest percentage among AL closers.

Tolleson is set to receive his award at the 2016 Dr. Pepper Texas Rangers Awards Dinner on Jan. 22, at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.
