SOL National/Bicentennial Wins Phillies Baseball Carpenter Cup Presented by GDF Suez

Suburban One League National/Bicentennial high school all-stars capture Phillies Baseball Carpenter Cup championship title, beating Jersey Shore 12-6 at Citizens Bank Park

Suburban One League National/Bicentennial won the 30th Annual Phillies Carpenter Cup Classic presented by GDF, defeating Jersey Shore, 12-6, in the championship game, held earlier today at Citizens Bank Park.

This is a big win for the Suburban One League National/Bicentennial, who last won the title in 2008. SOL National/BAL is the first Pennsylvania team to win since 2011.

"All of the young players who participated in this year's Phillies Baseball Carpenter Cup are to be commended," said Jon Joaquin, Director, Youth Baseball Development, The Phillies. "More than 400 high school all-stars demonstrated why they were considered the best of the best in the tri-state area, and showcased their amazing talents in front of major league and college scouts. It was a successful tournament, and we would like to congratulate SOL National/Bicentennial for being this year's champions."

The Phillies Baseball Carpenter Cup presented by GDF Suez began on Monday, June 15, at the newly-opened Phillies MLB Urban Youth Academy Fields at FDR Park. The semi-finals were held on Monday, June 21, and the championship game took place on Tuesday, June 23, at Citizens Bank Park. About the Phillies Baseball Carpenter Cup presented by GDF Suez

The Phillies Carpenter Cup Classic presented by GDF Suez is recognized nationally as one of the finest baseball tournaments for high school students and has been a catalyst for many players to receive scholarships and admission to some of the country's finest universities. Additionally, many Carpenter Cup participants have gone on to big league careers including Phillies broadcaster Ben Davis, Mike Trout, Mike Piazza, Mike Koplove, David Miller and Bobby Higginson. Also: the Phillies Softball Carpenter Cup is underway, with the championship game on Thursday, June 25 at FDR Park.
